SWATs are designing to be replicated, which means it’s important to have some focus otherwise we end up with lots of single evaluations that don’t really provide much certainty as to what is and is not effective.**\n\nThe [York Trial Forge SWAT Centre ](https:\u002F\u002Fwww.york.ac.uk\u002Fhealthsciences\u002Fresearch\u002Ftrials\u002Fswats\u002F)working together with the SWAT Network has produced a list of 11 priority recruitment and retention SWATs.  These SWATs were prioritised by looking at recruitment and retention interventions that are used a lot in the UK (with ones used often ranked higher), Cochrane systematic reviews of [recruitment ](https:\u002F\u002Fwww.cochranelibrary.com\u002Fcdsr\u002Fdoi\u002F10.1002\u002F14651858.MR000013.pub6\u002Ffull)and [retention ](https:\u002F\u002Fwww.cochranelibrary.com\u002Fcdsr\u002Fdoi\u002F10.1002\u002F14651858.MR000032.pub3\u002Ffull)strategies and the [PRioRiTY 1 and 2 process ](https:\u002F\u002Fpriorityresearch.ie\u002F)that identified important unanswered questions in trial recruitment and retention, respectively. Nine individual protocols for the prioritised recruitment and retention SWATs. We had 11 strategies, but two SWAT research questions are similar with others and the protocols can be adapted. Two of the prioritised SWATs focused on testing patient and public involvement (PPI) strategies for participant recruitment and retention. For these, we worked with three PPI partners to co-produce the two protocols.\n3.
